Accurately estimate age from a selfie

Yoti’s facial age estimation is highly effective, instant, scalable and accurately estimates the age of:

• 1.2 years accuracy for 6-12 year olds.
• 1.3 years accuracy for 13-17 year olds.
• 2.5 years accuracy for 6-70 year olds.

We test accuracy across gender and skin tone to ensure it works well for everybody.

Our technology has been independently tested by NIST, demonstrating its reliability as an effective and inclusive way to check age and age ranges with an appropriate threshold.

Images are not re-shared or re-used and are immediately, permanently deleted. Only images collected during onboarding for Yoti’s apps (in accordance with GDPR guidelines) and consented data collection exercises are used to train the algorithm.

How it works

The customer takes a selfie using the camera on the device – this could be a phone, laptop or a terminal. Our face capture module ensures we capture the best image for processing with minimal user input.

Our AI analyses the image to assess the age and runs a liveness check to make sure it’s a real person and not a deepfake or spoof attack.

Results are returned via our API or age verification platform in under a second, ensuring your customers have a seamless, privacy-preserving experience.
